The Ghost of Lily Painter by Caitlin Davies

Review by Tina
'Every House has a secret' and 43 Stanley Road, Upper Holloway, London in 1901 certainly had that.....This book has a little of everything to satisfy the reader, Ghostly happenings, detective inspiration, social history and great description. The author has based this book on true events of the 'baby farmers' Amelia Sach and Annie Walters who were both midwives and eventually hanged due to their sorrow comings and goings in 1902. The characters in the book are colorful, believable and the flow in chapters from the past to the present is done in a smooth convincing way which does not detract from the story and you want to turn each page to reveal what is happening. It also has a great twist at the end. I read this book eagerly not wanting to put it down and enjoyed learning through its historical content along with the contrasting personalities of the characters. I will certainly be searching out the authors other books on my next book hunting trip.
