Adongiva by Jim Costello

Review by Daisy
This book is one of the best I have read recently. It tells the story of Hiram Montgomery through about a year of his life. In this time he loses his wife, is told he is dying and wins the lottery before he decides to build his own boat.
The characters in this book are lovingly drawn and, unusually, are really likeable. There are a couple of villains in the wings and these add a nice counterpoint to the main story of the book.
Jim Costello's work is a pleasure to read - the characters, happenings and style meant that this was one that I read in a few hours, despite having other things to do! Hiram is one of the nicest people I have met in a lot of my reading - his integrity shines through and I found myself wanting the best outcome for him. On his journey, this somewhat shy man finds himself in situations he had never dreamed possible and makes true friends along the way. The boat of the title becomes even more special to everyone within the book and I found myself egging on the action, too.
A wonderful read for anyone who enjoys good, old-fashioned stories with a feel-good factor.
