Broken Angel: Volume One, by Christina Worrell
Review by Julie
A volume of 22 poems – 35 pages of poetry of life and love. With the exception of two or three poems which contained a small amount of hope, the poems are ones of pain, loneliness and anger of love rejected, love lost and betrayal. There are several poems where the ‘main character’ of the poem commits suicide, and a short ‘vampire’ poem.
If you like depressing poems, you will enjoy this compact selection. However, speaking as a poet myself, I thought the quality of writing was, at best, mediocre. I found the poems lacking in depth and real emotion; and places where the wrong word was used (i.e., breathe/breath, your/you’re, wander/wonder, etc.), which detracted from the poems.
