Shade's Loss by Christina M Worrell

Review by Daisy
I was excited to read this novel, the cover shows the darkness of a vampire novel with wolves and hidden places - lovely, my favourite sort of story!
Shade of the title is a tiny little seventeen year old girl living with her older brother Mikhail in modern-day America. They are on their way home when their futures are changed irrevocably by the things that they meet in the woods. This book charts their stories, albeit concentrating on the tale of Shade and how she has come to be who she is.
A story as rich as this deserves to be treated with great respect - if that means corrections and rewrites then please, for your audience, get it checked thoroughly. I found it really disappointing that this book has so many errors - characters' names are swapped when the action gets exciting, the poor grammar gets in the way of understanding the story because it feels as though it has not been properly checked. I appreciate that it is not always easy to find someone who is willing to go through your work and, equally, that it may feel that you are being corrected rather than your words, but this is not the case. To craft something with such love and then leave it 'unfinished' is really unacceptable.
The story itself is good and one which offers more for the future should the author decide to travel that path.
