Soldier of Fortune (I): The Wolf Cub by David Pilling

Review by Trev
I did not set out to buy this book but thanks to Amazon 1 click and a slow internet connection while in Spain I received it.
It started out with a brief battle for the capture of Constantinople in 1453 AD by Sultan Mehmed. Here a knight, Sir John Page and luckily someone who can write (very fast) set about writing a book to entertain the Sultan.
Sir John Page having lead a very long and eventful life tells his own story.
The book flows very well and does not keep taking you back a forth between past and present which keeps you in the tale very well.
If this was my first historical fiction set in these times some of the history would be a little hard to follow. I also found Sir John a little weak at times for an hero and was sometimes wanting more.
Overall well worth reading and a great adventure.
My only real issue was the bad or lack of a good proofreading. Lots of errors which if the author gets time would on a careful read find himself.
