Crescent Dawn By Clive Cussler and Dirk Cussler

Clive Cussler is guilty of seriously interfering with my sleep patterns; once you pick up one of his books it’s almost impossible to put it down until you’ve consumed the last page.
Mr Cussler’s books, whilst fully capable of being read on their own, are also part of a series. “Crescent Dawn” comes from the world of Dirk Pitt and NUMA. The characters and a lot of the background are familiar, like old friends who you’ve not seen for a while.
The plot is a fantastic mix of historical fact, imaginative theory and full on excitement, played out across the globe from Washington to Israel with stops in London, Turkey and Cyprus. There are ancient Romans, terrorists, archaeologists and a host of others, all whisked into a story that takes you back 2,000 years before catapulting you to the present day, leading to a discovery which will change the course of human history.
As expected from Cussler, his prose is as polished as a diamond. The locations are expertly described with a real feel for atmosphere and detail. Characters are introduced smoothly with deft strokes, instantly creating a perfect pen picture that’s filled out with detail as the story unfolds.
The historical, archaeological and thriller aspects really grabbed my attention with this one. To my mind Cussler doesn’t always quite hit the spot in a few of his novels; I’ve found the occasional plot just a little too far-fetched. But in “Crescent Dawn” his imagination is firing sweetly on all cylinders. If this kind of book is your thing, grab a copy today but prepare to be up half the night.
