Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb

Review by Natalie
Very well written, passionate book with a twist on the old piracy days in that there's magic involved. The land and characters are brilliantly described and it's easy to pick out your favourites from the beginning.
Your thrust into Althea Vestrists world as the stifled sea faring daughter of a caption of the Liveship Vivacia. With the 3rd death of a family member aboard the ship it comes to life due to the special powers the Wizardwood of the Rain Wilds bestows it. With her father’s death fresh Altheas only consolation of Captaining her ship is stripped from her by her families deception.
Your taken on a whirlwind adventure and cover some distressing issues with different characters view points but it all adds to the tale.
Loved all the characters, even the awful brother-in-law Kyle as he was a good villain and every story needs one.
Great start to a Trilogy with the pace and details setting the scene for The Mad Ship.
