Ruby Lake by Sherrill Willis

Review by D Michelle
Right from the off, the reader is set amongst a group of friends that puts them instantly at ease. Swathed in a comfort zone that rapidly becomes familiar and almost second-nature, the story unfolds. It's a tale that encouraged this reader to settle back, slow down and chill out with the easy-going people that live in Ruby Lake. The big question is: What is a big-city girl like Sydney going to do when she gets there? Even if it's only on a temporary, one-week contract, she anticipated being bored out of her mind in the evenings.
Rest assured, it's not boring.
From wayward dog tales, wildlife spotting and a new perspective on country living, Sydney doesn't have time to be bored. She makes friends and meets a guy and then the story really gets into its stride.
It had me being reminded of the movie: 'Working Girl' in places but this story isn't one that's 'samey'. To me, it's as fresh and crisp as the Ruby Lake autumn (fall) air early in the morning yet the reader warms to the well-developed characters faster than a side walk in California's mid-summer.
There were twists that I never saw coming and believe me, to get my eyes brimming is no mean feat in the literary field.
Sherrill has written an endearing, believable story and if there's not a sequel, I'll be having words, I want to know what happens to Sydney next! She's a girl that I think most readers can relate to and would be pleased to have as a friend.http://www.amazon.com/Ruby-Lake-ebook/dp/B0054YF89A
