City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

Review by Natalie
Book five carries on from the dramatic cliff hanger left from City of Fallen Angels where the male lead Jace disappeared with their evil nemesis Sebastian.
Clary is distraught at the loss of her love and having so much happen in less than a year so she is desperate to get him back anyway she can with the help of Simon, Alec, Isabelle and Magnus.
Defying their governing body The Clave, the group go to desperate measures including Demon raising in the hope to reach Jace knowing that he is still alive through Alec's parabati bond.
Sebastian has his own plans for Clary and using Jace as a veritable puppet he draws her to an alternate realm where he reveals his warped fascination with her and his new tie to Jace.
It's interesting to see the different sides to Sebastian's complex personality revealed even if they are amoral. It's fast paced and action filled with Clary coming into her own as a woman and Shadow-hunter. The story is told from various character view points giving it more depth than focusing just on the leads. A bit more risqué than previous books as the characters are growing closer as a couple and are of-course teenagers. I didn't notice any editing errors and found it a thoroughly enjoyable read, completely pleased with the ending. Can't wait for book 6!
