GLADIATRIX by Russell Whitfield

Review by Rachel
The sole survivor of a shipwreck off the coast of Asia Minor. Lysandra, a Spartan warrior priestess in the service of Athena, finds herself in slavery and in the service of Lucius Balbus; a lanista who produces the finest gladiatrices in Asia Minor.
As beautiful as she is deadly, Lysandra’s arrogance serves to make her appearance at the ludus a difficult one. She’s an excellent warrior and she knows it, her previous training setting her apart from many of the others causing jealousy and eventually, hatred. It is here though, in this ludus that she finds love in the arms of another gladiatrix.
Gladiatrix is full of blood, guts, gore and lesbian sex aplenty. It’s a gripping read that has pinpoint historical accuracy making it a book to devour, an absolute feast for the imagination.
If you’re looking for something other than the usual run-of-the-mill gladiator books, of which there are a multitude, then look no further. Russell Whitfield joins a band of historical fiction authors that are in the exclusive category of excellent, the reader can’t help but feel the sand of the arena underfoot and hear the roar of the crowd baying for blood. Ignore this book at your peril.
