A follow on from a bestselling series, The Vampire Academy see's a young Alchemist Sydney sent on a mission to protect the royal vampire Jill from assassination by her own kind.
To save her reputation and career she must go undercover at a human academy in the sunny Palm Springs where no one should suspect anything untoward. However from the onset her supervisor Keith is against her and tries to sabotage her at every turn which only spurs her on to do the right thing.
She must overcome all preconceived notions of vampires while trying to keep them at arms length.
I haven't read The Vampire Academy but didn't find it a problem as the characters Sydney interacts with were only "fillers" for that series so are allowed to finally come into their own here.
There was a young easy flowing dialogue which was appropriate for the age group it's aimed at, YA.
Some of the story seemed a bit unnecessary and I got slightly bored but the mysteries really made up for it.
Intrigued enough to want to read the second instalment and see how Sydney gets on.
